Rear Brake Pad Replacement on 2012-2015 Honda Civic
Complete instructions for rear brake pad replacement, detailing piston rotation/wind-back required for mechanical parking brakes. Mapped specifically for 2013 Honda Civic Si (2.4L I4 (K24Z7)).
Step 1
Elevate Vehicle and Remove Wheel
Release handbrake. Raise the rear of the vehicle on jack stands and remove the rear wheel.
🔧 Fastener: 19mm Hex Lug Nuts • Torque Spec: 80 ft-lbs
Step 2
Unbolt Caliper and Rotate Piston
Remove the rear caliper pin bolts. Pivot the caliper off. Since this uses a mechanical handbrake mechanism, use a piston wind-back tool to push and rotate the piston clockwise back into the caliper bore.
🔧 Fastener: 12mm Pin Bolt • Torque Spec: 17 ft-lbs
Step 3
Install New Hardware and Pads
Replace hardware, apply grease, fit new pads, and ensure the peg on the back of the inner pad aligns with the slot on the caliper piston before refitting the caliper.
