Battery Replacement and Terminal Cleaning on 2012-2015 Honda Civic

Clear instructions to disconnect, replace, and clean battery terminals on standard 51R platforms. Mapped specifically for 2013 Honda Civic Si (2.4L I4 (K24Z7)).

Step 1

Disconnect Battery Cables

Shut off ignition. Loosen the 10mm bolt on the negative terminal clamp (-) and pull it off. Then loosen and remove the positive terminal clamp (+). Always disconnect negative first to prevent short-circuit sparks.

🔧 Fastener: 10mm Terminal Nut • Torque Spec: 4 ft-lbs
Step 2

Remove Hold-Down Bar

Unbolt the two 10mm nuts on the cross tie-down bracket. Lift off the bracket and remove the plastic battery shield. Lift the old Group 51R battery out of the engine compartment.

🔧 Fastener: 10mm Hold Down Nut • Torque Spec: 8 ft-lbs
Step 3

Install New Battery

Clean corrosion off the clamps with a wire terminal brush. Drop in the new battery, reinstall the tie-down, and hook up positive (+) first, followed by negative (-) cable.
