Front Brake Pad Replacement on 2012-2015 Honda Civic 1.8L

Step-by-step instructions to replace front brake pads, including torque specs for caliper pins and bracket bolts. Mapped specifically for 2012 Honda Civic Si (2.4L I4 (K24Z7)).

Step 1

Secure Vehicle and Remove Wheel

Loosen the wheel lug nuts on the front wheels. Raise the vehicle using a hydraulic floor jack and secure it safely on sturdy jack stands. Remove the wheel lug nuts entirely and take the wheel off.

🔧 Fastener: 19mm Hex Lug Nuts • Torque Spec: 80 ft-lbs
Step 2

Remove Caliper Guide Pin Bolts

Locate the two 14mm caliper guide pin bolts on the back of the caliper housing. Use a 14mm socket or wrench to loosen and remove both bolts. Slide the caliper assembly off the rotor and hang it securely with a bungee cord or hanger so there is no tension on the rubber brake hose.

🔧 Fastener: 14mm Guide Pin Bolt • Torque Spec: 24 ft-lbs
Step 3

Compress Piston & Install New Pads

Slide out the old brake pads and caliper hardware clips. Install the new hardware clips and apply a thin layer of high-temperature brake grease to the contact surfaces (metal-on-metal only, never on the pad friction surface). Compress the caliper piston using a C-clamp or caliper tool, slide in the new pads, and reinstall the caliper housing over them.
